A Year of Scalable Growth, State-Wide Milestones, and Sustainable Art.
2025 was the year the Kitty Gang Family Foundation transitioned from a local grassroots movement to a recognized leader in Oklahoma’s sustainability landscape. From securing historic state permit exemptions to expanding our "Art Home" presence, we are proving that art and ecology belong together.

🌱 Scraps Community Composting: Breaking New Ground
This year, Scraps moved beyond the "porch" and into the future of urban waste management.
The Big Move: We officially moved operations from a residential porch to our dedicated Compost Lot, allowing for professional-scale processing.
Volume & Impact: Diverted 60 cubic yards (roughly 18 tons) of food waste, resulting in a 5-metric ton CO2 offset.
State-Wide Milestone: Scraps received the first OK DEQ small-scale composting operation permit exemption in the state of Oklahoma. This landmark achievement allowed us to immediately expand our services to numerous local small businesses.
Upgraded Systems: We transitioned our bin systems to 100% sustainable and reusable materials, ensuring our own footprint remains as small as possible.
Retail Presence: You can now find Scraps Compost bags on the shelves of local garden stores, closing the loop from food scrap to garden soil.
🏛️ Leadership & Advocacy
We aren't just composting; we are leading initiatives for a greener Oklahoma.
Influence: We submitted a formal presentation to Mayor Monroe expressing our interest in joining the Tulsa Sustainability Taskforce.
Community Consulting: Served as a consultative guest for the Tulsa Sustainability Alliance’s "First Steps Office Hours," focusing on eliminating food waste.
Board Leadership: Our Head of Operations and Finance, James Taylor, was elected to the Oklahoma Composting and Sustainability Association (OCASA) board. We are already working to bring OCASA meetings and International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW) events to Tulsa in 2026.
🎨 Art Home & Creative Activations
Art remains the soul of everything we do, providing a platform for hundreds of Tulsa creatives.
The Artboretum at Belafonte: Hosted 9 "Art Home Artboretums," showcasing 28 musicians and hundreds of local artists in a curated, collaborative environment.
Earth Day at Pony Coffee: Partnered with Pony Coffee for a community activation event featuring both Scraps Composting and Art Home creators.
Under the Canopy School composting event: Hosted a school compost demonstration titled "Smashing Pumpkins" teaching students the science of decomposition in a fun, hands-on way.
Sustainable Spaces: Provided professional sustainable gardening and planting services for The Colony, bringing functional beauty to one of Tulsa’s favorite local haunts.
🎪 Production & Outreach
We continue to show up for our community through labor, creativity, and essential resources.
Festival Production: Continued our tradition of excellence by donating set production for Tulsa Tough (Cry Baby Hill) and the Harvest Festival.
The Annual Holiday Coat Drive: Our community showed up in force once again, donating:
252 coats
71 blankets
Over 900 lbs of total donations to keep our neighbors warm.
Looking Forward to 2026
With our new DEQ permit exemption and our seat at the table with OCASA, 2026 is set to be our most influential year yet. We are committed to making Tulsa a national model for how art and sustainability can fuel a city's soul.
